DEGREE AWARDED: B.Sc (Honours) Building Technology

DURATION: 5 Years

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • To be eligible for admission into the B.Sc (Honours) Building Technology Degree programme, candidates must pass the SSCE Examination or its equivalent at credit level in five (5) subjects at not more than two (2) sittings; the subjects must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry/Economics and any other from the following subjects: Technical Drawing, Fine Arts, Geography, Land Surveying or Building Construction. In any case, at least a pass in Chemistry is required. Other equivalent qualifications may be accepted based on their merit.
  • Candidates must pass Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) with the prescribed cut off point in the following subjects: Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and any of Chemistry, Economics, Building Construction, Technical Drawing or Economics

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The following Postgraduate programmes are run in the department for both MSc and PhD degrees:

  3. Building Structures

  4. Building maintenance/ Facilities Management

 

Introduction

Recent advances in modern construction technologies and methods underscore the need for sound and rigorous management of construction processes, organizational structures, business models, and capability of integrating technology and management to create value for the user. The postgraduate programmes in Construction Management will provide students with ability to conduct a research on Construction Management including management theories and their applications in various sectors of the construction industry and to serve as a professional in the field of Construction Management. Students in the programme will have opportunities to study topics including Construction Project Management, Construction, and International Construction Management.

 

Philosophy

The Covenant University Philosophy, mission, and vision to develop a total man who is mentally resourceful, intellectually equipped and entrepreneurially self-confident via the vehicle of education, remains the philosophy of our postgraduate programmes. However at postgraduate level the products of the undergraduate programme are developed further to enhance their ability to break new grounds through research and development for improved skill and better performance on the job.

 

Admission Requirements

 

Master of Science

To qualify for admission to the M.Sc. degree programme a candidate must hold:

a) A Bachelor of Science degree in Building with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division Candidates in Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying from Covenant University or any other recognized University can also apply.

b) All candidates must satisfy a departmental selection committee in a written examination or an interview or both.

 

Master of Philosophy

Admission into the degree programme of Master of Philosophy in Construction Management is open to two categories of applicants

(a) Candidates who possess a Bachelor of Science degree with at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Building, Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying from this University or any other recognized University.

(b) Candidates who possess a Master of Science Degree (M.Sc.) in Construction Management with CGPA of 3.5 from this University or any other recognized University.

 

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

To be considered for admission into Doctor of Philosophy degree programme in Construction Management, an applicant must possess Master of Philosophy degree in Construction Management or Master of Science degree in Construction Management with CGP A of 4.0 from this University or any other recognized University or Institution of higher learning. In addition, candidates must satisfy the requirements as stipulated in the regulations of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
